I am a wife and mother of two, DONA and CAPPA trained labor, delivery and postpartum doula, as well as Senior student midwife at San Diego's Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery. I facilitate monthly Newborn Care classes at The Birth Education Center of San Diego and I am the developer and facilitator of the Practically Postpartum workshop as well as providing customized, in-home Childbirth Education and Newborn Care classes, I also provide Placenta Encapsulation (starting July 1!) and Maternity Concierge services, connecting your family with the practitioners, goods and services families need (and may not even know they need) here in the San Diego area.
Childbirth and Newborn Care Education
My work as a birth educator is one that I find to be an honor. Profoundly spiritual, I look upon my work as a deep spiritual service, exceptional and rewarding. My work as a birth educator is to provide you with classes and education and information to help you and your family make the fully informed choices that are going to be best for your family and your lifestyle. I offer one-on-one custom designed Childbirth Education classes, and newborn care education. We will laugh at the trials that pregnancy, labor and childbirth can bring and through the laughter, you'll learn! You'll walk away feeling confident, educated and empowered to ROCK YOUR BIRTH!
I feel that labor and delivery get an awful lot of attention and yes, that's an unbelievably important part of your pregnancy. But what happens after you deliver? What happens in those first weeks after the midwives have gone home or you've been released from the hospital? I remember thinking that I'd be just fine, I'd sit on a bean bag chair in the lotus position and sing Kumbaya, my halo would arrive in the mail and all would be right with the world. I didn't realize how unprepared I was for life with a newborn. I took a childbirth class, but that didn't give me a ton of insight into what that Fourth Trimester time would be like.
I remember when I got home with my first beautiful little girl and thought, "She's so great. How the heck did they let me leave the hospital with her? Do they know I have NO IDEA what I'm doing?" And thus, between diaper changes, near-nervous breakdowns, sleepless nights and breastfeeding dilemmas, the Practically Postpartum class was born!
So, there you are, pregnant, getting more pregnant by the day and a little lost. Maybe you're new to the area, maybe you're the first in your tribe to get pregnant and don't have friends to rely on for recommendations.
Where can I take a prenatally accommodated yoga class? Who's a great chiropractor? Who is trained in the Webster technique? What IS the Webster technique? Do you know a good doula? What about a midwife? What does a Postpartum Doula do? Where do I look for a good acupuncturist that works with pregnant women? Pediatrician recommendations? Massage therapists? Finding practitioners that you like and work well with can be challenging, time consuming and overwhelming.
I am here to help you. I've been integrated in the San Diego birth community for the past 10 years and I've met and interacted with a ton of midwives, doulas, yoga instructors, nutritionists, chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, you name 'em, I've met 'em. I only recommend practitioners that I've either met and worked with personally or that I've met and spoken with regarding their practice philosophies. Let me help you save time and frustration by providing you with some solid leads.
